I just got my new book" Eureka! ". "It is a
dramatic moments in history when a new product or process was first discovered
(if you want a copy please send an email to me VernonStent@hotmail.com). One of the inventions are not
in the book it was the fluorescent tube (or tube). That is not to say it is not
a fascinating history - it is. The problem is that it's not a big
"Eureka" moment. One could say that the fluorescent lamp has never been
really invented, but that they evolve over time.

The creation of the fluorescent tube was a truly joint effort on a
Century: Here are the milestones:

1675: Jean Picard, a French astronomer, noted that mercury in a barometer
Tube would glow when shaken. He took this remark does not understand
it

1846: Julius Plücker, German mathematician and physicist, and the theory
Experiments with colored light generates electricity by using different
Gases. He worked with glassblower Heinrich Geissler, which was invented, leading to
become known as Geissler tubes, where the experiments.

1850: Heinrich Geissler to develop light emitting tubes

1857: The Frenchman Alexandre Edmond Becquerel experimented with electrical
Discharge tubes coated on the inside with fluorescent materials

1868: Becquerel published his landmark treatise La Lumière, its causes and its effects on

1893 Nikola Tesla, originally from Serbia, the fluorescent light
with high frequency lighting ballasts

1894 McFarlane Daniel Moore, a U.S. inventor, the gas discharge lamp
with carbon dioxide and nitrogen for the production of white and pink or light

1901: Serial-inventor Peter Cooper Hewitt of New York, invented the mercury
Vapor lamp. For the first time fluorescent lamps were produced
in trade, albeit on a small scale

1926: Edmund Germer, Friedrich Meyer and Hans J. Spanner - all from Germany --
succeeded in a fluorescent tube with a gas pressure and a fluorescent
Inner coating is converted to UV light into visible white light.

1938: After purchasing the patent by Edmund Germer, General Electric mass
Fluorescent lamps produce.

1974: GE Lighting has the energy-efficient compact fluorescent lamp

How does it work?

First you need a glass tube, the small amount of a given gas and some
Mercury sealed inside - and nothing else. The gas is argon or neon, or
a number of other gases (each produces its own color). Stream
is from one end of the tube to another. The electrons created by
ionize the atoms in the mixture and cause it to emit ultraviolet light. The
Electricity must be before they can happen with a choke or
Ballast. Without this limiting factor, fluorescent bulbs could explode! Of
Contrast, a high voltage is required to view the whole process started. If the
Lamp on for the first time, a starter is used to this
"" Kick-Start. " The starter can be an integral part of the lamp to build
and can automatically or it can be a separate entity, usually a small plug, the
Rotations in position.

The fluorescent lamp has an entire journey of Jean Picard Early Musings
on energy-efficient light bulbs of today. They are used in many applications. One
these applications is the killer machine fly. Insectocutor fly killers use
UV fluorescent tubes, to attract the flies to catch and kill
them. Each lamp comes complete with a starter and a choke.

Here you can see the UV lamp Insectocutor and here and here you can see, lamp starter.
