After 22 years as a personal injury lawyer is a key principle that, when it comes to what a case is worth:

Identify all injuries and make sure that everyone correctly diagnosed and treated.

"" What? "" Say, "" Is not that the doctor at work? ""

Maybe. But it is the doctor working to ensure that you have maximum recovery in your personal injury case?

In this day of information overload physicians are challenged to stay on the developments in their field and to their professional specialty. An orthopedic surgeon, for example, can be expected to spot a bone break. But is it realistic for him to also know symptoms "TMJ"?

Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ)

The temporomandibular joint is one of the two joints connecting the lower jaw bone to the temporal bone (think "temples") of the skull. It is a combined hinge and sliding joints. Temporomandibular joint disorder is an abnormal condition with facial pain and poor function of the mandible.

I once met a Chinese customer. He came to this country to go to school and decided to stay. While cruising the highway in the Volkswagen bus one night, he was from the rear by a large semi-trucks.

His injuries were numerous and varied. One day, after he had seen many doctors, he was visiting me in my office to discuss his personal injury case. My attention was on an audible "pop" sound, which coincide with the opening of his mouth.

TMJ? They believe it. One of the worst cases I had ever seen (or heard).

Here is a checklist of TMJ symptoms was accompanied by a TMJ specialist:

1. Are there any pain in or around the ears, jaw, head or neck?

2. Are there common TMJ sounds such as popping, clicking or cracking sounds or feelings?

3. Is it painful to eat or too hard to open your mouth?

4. Do you have headaches often?
Very low TMJ symptoms can be treated, sometimes sufficient, but by a chiropractor, if the disruption continues over several chiropractic adjustments should include a reference to a dentist who specializes in TMJ. The dentist may be a bracket for the patient, which, hopefully, a long-term rehabilitation and discharge.

Head injuries

Another common Malady in injury cases (especially after the car accident) is a closed head injury. A closed head injury occurs when trauma (injury) of the brain, did not result in a skull fracture. A type of closed head injury is a "blow", "This is a violent jarring or shaking of the brain injury.

Closed head injuries are quite common after car accidents and can occur even if the injured person is not on the head.

A rapid acceleration and deceleration of the head may be the brains to back and forth inside the skull. The stress from the rapid movements pulls apart nerve fibers and causes damage to brain tissue. This type of injury often as a result of motor vehicle crashes and physical violence, such as Shaken Baby Syndrome. (Source: Brain Injury Association of America.)

It at least twelve (12) common symptoms of closed head injuries. I received a list of these common symptoms of a neuropsychologist. (A "" neuropsychologist "is the doctor who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of closed head injuries.) The list was for a research project: 'behavior result in head injuries" from Sureyya Dikmen, Ph.D., Principal Investigator .

Here are the symptoms:

1) headache;

2) fatigue;

3) dizziness;

4) blurred vision;

5) problems concentrating;

6) annoyed by noise;

7) the trouble of light;

8) irritability, lack of patience;

9) loss of temper easily;

10) memory difficulties;

11) fear;

12) insomnia.
For head injuries, the injury to the brain which is the recognized specialist neuropsychologist. If the patient shows some of the above symptoms, especially if these symptoms persist for more than 18 months, a referral should be one of those experts, a series of tests to accurately assess how the accident has focused on the mental abilities the injured person.

WHERE DO YOU HURT?

In addition to these checklists, a way to diagnose injuries on the spot to ask: "Where am I still have pain?" ". Let your doctor (or lawyer) know and get a referral to a doctor who is in the treatment of qualified, that part of your body.

Here's an example: Pain under arms or legs may be a symptom of a disk herniation. Hard disks between vertebrae are soft "pads" between the bones of the spine. An accident can break the hard outer shell (annulus fibrosis), the inner substance (nucleus pulposus) to the outside. This is called a herniation, and they can print on the surrounding tissues, especially the nerves that exit from the spinal cord. This pressure on the spinal cord can cause pain all the way to the fingers or toes. Sometimes surgery is required to resolve the problem.

The point here is that if you are the symptoms of a disc herniation you probably need an MRI or CT scan. (Note: The symptoms of a disc herniation must be approved by a competent physician to determine whether any of these tests is necessary.) If you have a disk herniation correctly diagnosed by one of these "imaging studies" "Your case will be added value.

More importantly for you, in the long term, what can be done to treat. If no MRI or CT scan will not receive as compensation for the injury, and they suffer without adequate treatment.
