invention without patent

invention without patent
Before you decide one way or another, if the Internet directly from the pit of hell and something to be feared, the following quote, which is an excellent job of reminding us, a little foresight, when combined with new Ideas and Inventions:

"The airplane is an invention of the devil and will never be in any form, in such a serious business, as the defense of the nation, my boy!"
- Sir Sam Hughes, Canadian Minister of Militia and Defense policy, JAD McCurdy, the Minister had with the idea of setting up an air service, August 1914

Well, it is impossible to know how influential the narrow vision of Sir Sam Hughes was in the shaping of today's Canadian Air Force. But one thing is certain - the poor old Mr. Hughes really missed the boat (or plane), when it comes to his assessment of a relatively new invention in his time.

Hopefully we do not like missing the boat when it comes to our assessment of the Internet. But what is our assessment of the Internet? Here are a few questions that may help:

How many of us hear, unconsciously, the terms "Web" or "the network", only to notice that the railways and networks are the things used to catch unsuspecting victims just before they are killed and eaten?

How many of us secretly hope "Web" is not always bigger and more important, we can Squeak through the rest of our lives, without really know?

How many of us are still too scared to buy something online, but like our credit card to an eighteen-year-old waiter in a restaurant, then watch him walk away for minutes on end while knowing he could easily copy the number / expiration date / confirmation number on the back? (Not to say that your waiter goes to do this. But hey, you know, he could.)

Heck, how many of us have never used the Internet? (If you read this article online, then this last question does not apply to you. Excellent!)

Now I can already hear some of you, ask, "Are you saying that just because the plane is all right, the Internet, and so we should blindly welcome this monstrosity in our quiet life?"

No, I'm not saying that at all. In fact, the argument could be that the aircraft has led to some of the terrible deeds in the history of mankind - Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and 9-11 to name a few - and so the lesson to learn is the fear of new inventions. Yes, the argument can be very easy.

But I do not agree with the argument, and here's why. It is based on fear and fear always chokes at the throat of the ever-growing life around us. Sure, we can offer a position as Sir Sam Hughes, in which we fear that the new thing called the Internet as an evil, and then try to its natural development.

Or we can welcome and what's new, what's unknown, although we are still not sure what it is. And although it's impossible to know how influential we are in the design of the Internet is constantly changing, at least we get to play a role, what it has become. If we go into the process of development that we can influence what happens. And who knows, we might even us.

So, what I say is: Get on the Net, surf the Internet, make a difference and have fun.
